The Arctic Bay Difference: Advanced Downproof Lining
At Arctic Bay, lasting winter performance begins with the materials you do not always see. The outer shell defines the first line of protection, but the construction beneath it plays an equally important role in helping a down parka retain its warmth, structure, and comfort over time.
That is why selected Arctic Bay parkas use a premium downproof lining with a specialized Downproof Finish and C0 Durable Water Repellent (DWR) treatment, finished with an embossed ARCTIC BAY logo.
This lining is designed to support the garment from the inside by helping reduce down migration and feather leakage, while adding another layer of protection around the insulating fill.
Why Downproof Construction Matters
Down is valued for its ability to create loft — the three-dimensional structure that traps air and helps provide insulation. For that loft to perform consistently, the fill needs to remain distributed inside the garment rather than gradually working through the surrounding fabric.
A downproof lining helps create a tighter barrier around the insulation. Its role is not to replace the jacket's overall construction, but to work with it by helping keep down and fine feathers inside the parka where they belong.
By limiting migration through the lining fabric, this additional layer can help support the parka's appearance, insulation distribution, and long-term comfort.
TrueNorth Outershell: The Protective Exterior
Arctic Bay's TrueNorth outershell is specified at 152 GSM and uses a 70% nylon / 30% cotton weave. This fabric forms the exterior layer of the garment and is designed to combine durability with the practical performance expected from winter outerwear.
The TrueNorth shell is also coated with DuPont Teflon Shield+ water-repellent finish, adding a surface treatment intended to help resist moisture on the exterior fabric.
This outer-shell specification is distinct from the downproof inner lining: one addresses the garment's exterior layer, while the other helps support and contain the insulating fill from within.
An Extra Layer of Protection Inside the Parka
Premium outerwear is built through layers of decisions. Stitching, shell fabric, insulation, lining, closures, and finishing details all contribute to how a parka performs in everyday winter use.
The downproof lining adds another protective component within that system. It sits between the insulation and the wearer, helping create a more controlled environment for the down fill while contributing to a clean, comfortable interior finish.
This kind of hidden construction detail is part of the broader Arctic Bay approach to Canadian parka manufacturing: focusing not only on how a jacket looks, but also on how its internal components work together.
Puff Lining: Lightweight Internal Fabric
The technical specification also identifies an Arctic Bay Puff Lining made from 20 Denier Taffeta, using 100% nylon with a DWR finish.
This lightweight lining fabric forms another part of the internal construction system. Its specification complements the insulating structure without adding unnecessary bulk.
The DWR designation shown for the Puff Lining is presented separately from the C0 DWR treatment described for the specialized downproof lining, as the supplied material specification does not identify the Puff Lining treatment as C0.
C0 DWR: Moisture Resistance at the Fabric Surface
The specialized downproof lining also features a C0 Durable Water Repellent (DWR) finish. This treatment is formulated without intentionally added fluorinated compounds and is designed to help moisture bead on the surface of the fabric rather than immediately soaking in.
Within the lining system, that surface treatment adds another functional layer while supporting the overall construction of the garment.
It is important to distinguish this from the jacket's outer weather protection: the C0 DWR treatment discussed here applies to the downproof lining fabric itself and works as part of the parka's internal material system.
Technical Function, Refined Finish
Performance materials do not need to feel purely utilitarian. The lining is finished with a subtle embossed ARCTIC BAY logo, giving the interior of the garment a distinctive branded detail without distracting from its technical purpose.
This combination of function and finish reflects the way Arctic Bay approaches premium outerwear: visible design and hidden construction should support one another.
Supporting the Performance of Premium Down
The quality of a down parka depends on more than fill alone. Insulation performs as part of a complete system that includes shell fabrics, internal barriers, stitching, and garment construction.
Arctic Bay's use of downproof lining is intended to complement the premium down used throughout our outerwear. You can learn more about our approach to insulation in our guide to fur and Canadian duck down.
Together, the TrueNorth outershell, internal lining system, and insulating fill form a layered construction approach designed for repeated winter wear and careful long-term performance.
Quality You Can Feel. Protection You Can Trust.
A premium winter parka is an investment in comfort, performance, and durability. That is why the details beneath the surface matter.
By combining a 152 GSM TrueNorth outershell, specialized downproof fabric, lightweight Puff Lining, DWR treatments, and thoughtful garment construction, Arctic Bay creates parkas designed to help keep insulating down where it belongs while supporting consistent comfort through Canadian winter conditions.
